The Ocean Breathes Salty

It is supposed to be sooo hot here this weekend.
Which makes this look all the more appealing:

The Bondi Icebergs Baths sit at the southern end of Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.
The Olympic-sized pool and it's kiddie pool neighbor are nestled among among the crashing waves of the Tasmin Sea- the very same sea whose waters fill the pool.
It is also the sea whose currents control the temperature of this public swim spot;
temperatures that, thanks to the pool's solid concrete construction, are always a few degrees cooler than that of the ocean.
(The temperatures are also known to fluctuate throughout the day, and are kept updated on the pool's Twitter feed.)

Dive in, Dears,
and have a lovely weekend.

Dem Bones

Namibia is full of ghosts.
Heavy fogs along the Atlantic coast in the northern part of the country have caused their fair share of shipwrecks;
the rusted, hulking bones of countless sailing vessels lying half buried in the sands of The Skeleton Coast.

But these were not the ghosts that Spanish photographer Alvaro Sanchez-Montanes came looking for.
The ghosts he sought were further south, further in-land, in the long abandoned desert town of Kolmanskop.

Once rich in diamond mines, the German settlement flourished for four decades before being abandoned for good in the mid-1950's, the mines drained, the miners moving on, seeking their treasure elsewhere.
The desert has spent the years since shifting sands; blowing, drifting, and taking back what was once theirs.

It is these ghosts, those of the homes and the buildings and the lives once lived within their walls, they are the ghosts Sanchez-Montanes came to find.

And he did so beautifully.

Ooh, Las Vegas

I have never had a great desire to visit Las Vegas.
I'm not one for gambling or going to designer clubs. And I really don't like hot hot temperatures.
Even when the heat is a dry one.
But every now and then, I get a bit wanderlusty for a bit of blindingly bright sun and a little kitsch.
Making the Neon Boneyard right up my tacky-loving alley.

The rusted relics and bones of what once was.
In all of its neon glory.
Perhaps I should never say never to a Sin City trip.
At least not if just passing through.

You Gotta Fight

It's Friday. And you know what they say:
You gotta fight. For your right. To party.
And in case you ever sat around wondering exactly who said what,
artist Craig Robinson's  got you covered.
His visual interpretation of the Beastie Boys classic gives a colored dot for each word,
with the colors representing each of the three Beasties.

Kick it.
