Happy Weekend

Just about twelve hours and counting until it is, officially, the weekend.
Woot.
Mine promises to be busy,
selling all of those carefully crafted pretties to the masses.
At least those that chose to remain in the city on a hot July weekend.
There is a general exodus out of here come Friday evening,
what with the close proximity to the shore.
If you have the choice, you'd be a fool not to trade hot concrete for sand between your toes.
I should know,.
I made just that trade earlier in the week,
playing hooky from all that is important for the day.
I ate an orange creamsicle for lunch.
I got sunburn.
It was divine.
But back to the here and now.
Should you find that you are one of those who chose not to leave the city this weekend,
well, count yourself among the lucky.
For The City of Philadelphia has options,
good options,
and won't let you down if it's a great day out that you crave.
I've packed up the travelling show and me and the pretties are hitting the road, starting today.
I'll be at the 30th Street Craft Market today, Friday the 11th, from 11-4.
Come hang out on The Porch at 30th Street Station with me and my super talented friends.
There will be food. And mini golf. And trains.
Tomorrow, I'm pretty psyched to check out the brand new Spruce Street Harbor Park.
Hammocks. Food. A river view (and a river breeze!).
The fine folks at Art Star are curating a weekly
Me and the pretties will be hanging there, under a tree, from 11-3 tomorrow.
So, like I said, Philadelphia will not let you down this weekend.
There are plenty of opportunities to peruse handmade goodness, nap in a hammock, or take in the final game of the World Cup.
Go Argentina.
Have a Happy Weekend, you guys.

Happy Weekend

Hooray huzzah, Dear Readers,
it's the weekend!
And the weather here is supposed to be absolutely glorious!
In fact, after today, the weather for the foreseeable future has a decidedly glorious lean.
The air conditioner is already switched to off,
and there's a bit less humidity in each breeze that blows through the open windows.
I plan on following that breeze right on out the back door and sneaking in a few more chapters of the book I've been reading all summer.
Maybe even a nap, too.
Enjoy.

Happy Weekend

{so long, Davy Jones}

It's the weekend, Dear Readers!
The most perfect time to just drift off and become a Daydream Believer...
or perhaps just find a quiet few hours to simply dream.
Enjoy.

Happy Weekend

Happy Weekend, y'all.
What do you have planned?
I've been living amongst the chaos of a kitchen remodel for the past week.
Everything is turned upside down. The cupboards are, quite literally, bare. Or better yet: no longer even there. It's an adventure every morning just trying to make a cup of coffee, wandering from non-kitchen room to non-kitchen room, collecting spoons and mugs and sugar. And adventure is not really what you want before you have your morning coffee.
But adventure is upon us, and it looks like it's here to stay for the foreseeable future. Make do and mend time, right?
Oh, and it's supposed to snow, which it hasn't properly done yet this winter. White stuff flying through the air, both inside and out.
Should be an adventure.

Happy Weekend, Dear Readers? How is 2012 treating you so far?
I hope the first week in has been a relaxing one, after all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
I spent the first week plotting and planning, with a little play mixed in.
I saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and, seeing as how I practically never go to the movies, it may very well be the only thing I see this year. Which is not a statement on the movie itself: read the book, enjoyed the movie. Wouldn't mind living permanently in Blomkvist's tiny cottage.
I've also been working on some new lovelies for the shop- I'll work on getting some sneak peeks ready for next week ;)
(ps- the sale is still going on through next Thursday!)
This weekend will bring a belated birthday celebration for my mom, which means I'd better get cracking on the cake.
See you next week.

Happy Christmas Weekend!

Have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas.
I will be back next week, after the gifts have been unwrapped, the cookies and pies have been eaten, and the egg has been nogged.
Until then, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend

{image}

The pies are baked and cooling. The apples and the cranberries have been cooked to perfection. A chocolatey, gingery treat has just been pulled from the oven.
My work is done.
All that's left to do is find four days worth of clothing with comfortable waistbands
and get ready to get my eat on.
And, of course, wish you all a
Very Happy Thanksgiving.
See you next week.

Happy Weekend

Happy Weekend, Dear Readers!
What do you have planned? Anything fun?
It was a busy week that had me leaving the house while the sun was still new,
and returning only after the moon had once again replaced it.
A week in which a pirate ship was made and sailed across the rug, and apples were sliced and left in the oven until they were nice and sweet and crisp.
It was a good week, and the weekend is looking no different.
Hope you all enjoy yours.

Happy Weekend

A very Happy Weekend to you, Dear Readers.
In the words of Nephew 1, this is the weekend we go "pour water on Nephew 2's head."
It's a weekend in which my non-church going family gets all gussied up, goes to church, and tries to behave like the, um, mature adults we all are.
It's a weekend that I become, once again, a godmother (kiss the ring.).
From what I understand, as their godmother, my job is to guide my sweet nephews along a spiritual path. Seeing as how I'm not a particularly spiritual person, I originally scoffed at this idea. But then I thought about all of the really cool beliefs and traditions in all of the world's many, many religions, and thought, I've got this.
I also thought about what it means to me, being their godmother. I wrote notes to the boys, telling them how I saw myself in this role to them, and how much it means to me. I told them about all of the things I will teach them, like how to curse in French and where to spot Alfred Hitchcock's cameos in each of his movies. I gifted them with savings bonds, and told them to use the money to see the world. I gave them books, and I gave them the world. Quite literally: a big blow up globe to roll and bounce.
In return, every day, they give me the world right back.

Happy Weekend

Happy Weekend, my Dear Readers!
Perhaps it's a trick, and all of the weather people are in on it, or perhaps it's a pre-winter treat,
but snow, measurable amounts of it,
are actually in the forecast for this final October weekend. Can you believe that?
Sounds like a perfect excuse to stay in and bake and watch old movies to me.
How about you? What are your weekend plans?
Hope it's spooktacular, however you spend it :)

Happy Weekend

{image}

A very Happy Weekend to you, my Dear Readers!
And what a glorious week it has been. The first half of which was spent blissfully lounging on an unseasonably warm and sunny beach, void of tourists and crowds and noise.
The second half was spent just as blissfully indoors, sheltered from the rain and dropping temperatures with the first socks and sweaters of the season. Nothing to do and nowhere to be.
Free to bake and read and nap, with the music turned up as loud as I wanted, and the ringer on the phone turned as low as it would go.
A cleansing week for the mind and the soul, leaving everything fresh and clean and bursting with creativity.
Have yourselves a good one.

Happy Weekend

My Dear Readers...the weekend is almost here.
And this is one weekend I have been looking forward to for a long time coming. Why? Well, you see that lady up there, in the picture? The one sitting there, with her book, all wrapped up on some long ago beach?
Well, I plan on emulating her over the next couple of days. On a much more modern day beach, of course. But a beach cooled by autumn, none the less. Just me, my book, my bright pink chair, and my snuggie. One pocket for my iPod, and one pocket for my flask. And sleeves for easy page turning.
It's just for a couple of days, but what a blissful couple of days they shall be.
See you in a few.

Happy Weekend

Katharine Hepburn

Happy Weekend, Dear Readers! Are you enjoying it so far?
This past week was a good one, filled with music and city adventures.
A dear friend called and asked if I wanted to be his plus one for Wilco's taping
(if it's all digital, is it even called a "taping" any more?)
Umm, yeah!
So Wednesday, it was up to New York in the pouring rain. And y'all, Wilco brought it.
But before you get too jealous, Dave wasn't there. Good thing, too, 'cause the Ed Sullivan Theater is tiny!
He would never have been able to out run me ;)
The week ended with more music in another city in the pouring rain.
This time, Nephew One and I had a city date day in Philly, and we spent the afternoon enjoying a fabulous performance by Diego Garcia.
. The Boy is fascinated by music, and I just plunked his tiny self down on a folding table in front of the stage and watched him suck it all in.
He went home and played his guitar for mommy and daddy and Nephew Two, adding an introduction to his songs by way of counting. Like I said, he sucked it all in. He's been talking about the Drum Man and his drums and sticks ever since.
A very good week, indeed.
The coming week is looking a bit more low key, a little less musical. But with all the same rain.
It is fall, after all.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Lovelies!

Happy Weekend

Dude. It's the weekend. I have mixed emotions. The past few have brought earthquakes, hurricanes, and police vs. neighbor armed stand-offs. So, there's half of me that wants the next few days to be quiet, peaceful, and drama free. Then there's this other half that wonders what exactly to do with your typical, boring, drama free weekend. I think I'm willing to find out, though. And I'm gonna start out by sleeping in. Or maybe not. The last time I looked forward to sleeping in, I got about 4 1/2 hours into my shut-eye before being rudely awakend by gun shots. So maybe I don't want to sleep at all. Just stay awake until Monday. There you go, karma, Murphy's Law, The Universe. I've covered my bases. Perhaps that'll slow you down in catching me again. One can only hope, right?

Have a good weekend, Dear Readers, whatever life throws your way.

Happy Weekend

{image}

I think it's fair to say that most of us view this first weekend in September as the end of the summer. The kids
are going back to school. Boots and scarves are making their way onto shop shelves. Vacations are now memories, and old routines are once again being fallen into.
Indeed, we here in the States bid adieu to the long summer days with a long weekend. A long weekend that is eagerly anticipated amongst my friends and family, for that final long summer weekend is Pork Fest Weekend. And what is Pork Fest, you ask? Why, it's just that: a celebration of all things pork. It is the brainchild of my brother-in-law and his neighbor, who started this humble ode to the pig a few years ago, with three grills and a deep-fryer. The rules are pretty basic, in that to gain entry to this most revered of festivals, you must bring food. And that food must contain, in some form, pork (I'm bringing these, and something along the lines of this, but with panchetta added. And, of course, a bottle of bacon vodka, for bloody marys.). You might also slide by with a case or so of good beer ;)
Preparations start months in advance, when my brother in law starts brewing a batch of beer especially for the occasion. As Pork Fest Sunday draws near, bacon begins piling up in freezers. Pork is priced and pounced upon when a good sale is found. The day before, the smell of bacon fills the air for miles around. Early, ever so very early on the actual day, the smoker is started. Pulled pork starts, well, pulling. The deep fryer is turned on, hot oil ready and waiting. And all in anticipation of an entire day, and well into the night , spent enjoying pork.
It is eaten in rice and beans, in empenadas and collard greens. It is candied, and tucked delightfully into an apple tart. It is devoured as bacon, wrapped around a chunk of mac and cheese and deep fried. It is a pleasant surprise in cookies and cupcakes and whoopie pies. It is smoky in cocktails, and wrapped around melon. It is consumed in such varied and abundant forms, that it needs to be held on a long weekend. You simply cannot begin the week in a pork coma! Monday is spent lazily, weighed down, blissfully, with a pork hangover. Preferably with Vogue's September issue and the new Anthology magazine. It is the perfect see-off to summer.

How about you, Dear Readers? Do you have any special plans or traditions for the weekend?
Enjoy it, and make it last, whatever you do.

Happy Weekend

{image}
Dear Readers...what a week it's been. A week filled with early mornings and little boys. And earthquakes. Which never happen here. And I missed it. I was pushing those little boys in their super-swank smooth riding double stroller, just marching along (at my usual near-jog pace), and I missed the whole thing.
I was undaunted by an un-returnable missed call from their daddy, figuring it was a butt/phone situation. I agreed with Nephew 1, who kept telling me about "big badumpadumps", because, yes! we were going over many a bumpy sidewalk. Budumpadump indeed! I thought the man standing in front of the cleaners might be trying to pick me up when he informed me that the earth had just moved, despite the stroller I was looming behind. It wasn't until a frantic text from my sister finally came through, asking if we were ok, that I started to suspect something might be amiss. The frightened face of Nephew 1 confirmed that suspicion.
An earthquake. A real one. And I missed it. The only proof I had were the few books and pictures that had fallen off of shelves, greeting me when I got home that night.

How can you possibly top a week that includes a rare east coast earthquake? Why, with a hurricane, of course! A hurricane looking very much like it wants to give a pretty direct hit to the Philadelphia area. A hurricane that has Mayor Bloomsberg talking evacuations in New York City. A hurricane that has me gathering candles and matches, and moving freshly moved-in things out of my floodable basement studio.
However exciting the week might have been, it's got nothing on the weekend ahead.
Stay safe, stay dry, and have a Happy Weekend.

Happy Weekend

{image}

Well, it's taken until mid-August, but finally, finally, summer has this whole weather thing figured out. It's hot, but not too hot. It's perfectly hot. There's no humidity. The sky is blue, and the clouds are whispy. And at night? It's cool. And breezy. And the rain in the forcast for the second half of the weekend is just fine. We need it. And people are walking around so happy and drunk on the good weather, that they're perfectly happy to take some of the not so good.
Wishing you all a perfectly balanced, silver-lining kind of a weekend.
