It's All In The Details

 

When it comes to clothing, I am an absolute sucker for a quirky detail.

I swoon over a perfectly off set pocket or pleat.

Gasp at the hem stitched in a color that doesn't belong...but really, couldn't be more perfect.

And if something has a clever tag? Particularly one with a scrap of ribbon or a tiny charmed doo-dad hanging from the end?

No question, that particular garment will be finding a new home in my closet.

So you can imagine the breathless squeal I emitted when I happened upon these beautiful Isabel Marnat pieces with dreamy landscapes printed by French artist Emilie Faif.

 

 

And though these gorgeous scenes are concealed inside the garments, you can place a sure bet that, were I to see them hanging on a shop rack, and had the deep pockets it would take to make them mine, I would most certainly do so.
And I would feel especially lovely every time I wore them,
despite the fact that no one would see the details that make the pieces so special.

In Step

I love these shoes, from recent Central Saint Martins College fashion graduate Helen Bullock.

The London-based designer fitted pieces of found wood to the shoe, creating one heck of a pair of kicks.

Travel Wardrobe

Auckland-based designer Anne Wilson of Annex at the Design Foundry creates dresses that appeal to multiple sensibilities.

There's the wanderlust factor of the vintage maps,

and, well, who doesn't love a good frock, paper or otherwise?

They have me wanting to pack my bags. How about you?

Hide and Seek

One of my favorite visuals from a movie happens towards the beginning of Garden State, when, after his mother's funeral, Zach Braff's character is urged by his aunt to try on a shirt that she made for him using the leftovers from the fabric she had used to cover the walls. It's a quick image, him standing in the shirt against the matching wall. I love this.

New Zealand design house Twenty Seven Names has used this same type of imagery in their Winter 2012 look book. The results are nothing short of fabulous.

Anatomy of a Shirt

It was love at first sight, that afternoon one of LeBestiaire's beautiful, delicately embellished tops first appeared on my computer monitor. And with each click of the mouse through this gorgeous shop, the love affair grew and grew. From the beautifully imagined shop announcement, full of fables and flowers and cabinets of natural curiosities; to the simple, elegant photographs, with the details of each piece romantically outlined en français.

Just a little something to make you swoon on a Tuesday.
