Iconatomy

What, you may be pondering, is Iconatomy?

Funny you should ask.

Iconatomy (icon, anatomy) is Swedish artist George Chamoun's seriously cool series of collages of Hollywood icons, present and past.

Chamoun tediously fitted together the images of his cleverly combined subjects. No digital morphing whatsoever.

The results are absolutely brilliant, don'tcha think?

Combining interests both feminine (needlework) and masculine (old cars), Lithuanian artist Severija Incirauskaite-Kriauneviciene proves the old adage that opposites do indeed attract.

Soft, delicately stitched roses.

Hard, road-torn metal.

Spencer Studio

Lauren Spencer King completes thoughts. Using vintage photographs as her muse, the Los Angeles-based artist pencil-sketches beyond the edges of what is captured in the frame, giving the images what she calls "a place where the past and present can meet."

The results? Sublime.

Happy Weekend, Dear Readers? How is 2012 treating you so far?

I hope the first week in has been a relaxing one, after all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

I spent the first week plotting and planning, with a little play mixed in.

I saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and, seeing as how I practically never go to the movies, it may very well be the only thing I see this year. Which is not a statement on the movie itself: read the book, enjoyed the movie. Wouldn't mind living permanently in Blomkvist's tiny cottage.

I've also been working on some new lovelies for the shop- I'll work on getting some sneak peeks ready for next week ;)

(ps- the sale is still going on through next Thursday!)

This weekend will bring a belated birthday celebration for my mom, which means I'd better get cracking on the cake.

Sail On, Sailors

The week before Christmas was secretly spent toiling away with newspapers, paintbrushes, a needle and a thread, until the wee hours. Inspired by Ann Wood's beautiful paper mache and vintage textile boats (and following her detailed tutorial), I set about creating little ships for my nephews.

Two layers of high school and college sports scores from a shore-area newspaper (so as not to cover the boats with any bad news) were glued and smoothed down, and covered with paint. Green for Nephew One, blue for Nephew Two. It was, unbelievably, a first go at paper mache.

Masts and yards were fashioned out of bamboo skewers, soon to be joined by sails made from sewing basket scraps. My vintage button collection was pillaged for the rigging.

Through some great miracle, the S.S. Boys were ready to sail by Christmas morning.

Sail on, Sweet Boys.

Holiday Hooch

Remember the 36 lemons I peeled and squeezed and fermented in the fall?

Well, I'm happy to report that the limoncello I gifted friends and loved ones with this Christmas was a hit.

A big hit.

My phone is filled with text message requests for refills.

A new holiday tradition my have just been born.
